Abstract

Awareness of the importance of the relationship between humans and nature has led to the application of biophilic architecture in various commercial spaces. Mahboen Coffee in Malang City is an interesting study because it presents a spatial concept that combines natural elements and an open atmosphere in the midst of an urban environment. The research approach used a qualitative method with data collection through field observations, visual documentation, and digital archives in the form of visitor reviews on Google Reviews. Observations were conducted to identify the application of biophilic elements in the spatial design, while archival data was used to assess user perceptions of the presence of these elements. From a total of 546 reviews, categorization was carried out based on seven main aspects of Nature in the Space including visual connections, non-visual, sensory stimuli, temperature variations, natural lighting, the presence of water, and connections with natural systems. The analysis results showed that the elements of temperature variations and airflow (27.04%) were the aspects most appreciated by visitors, followed by connections with natural systems (22.84%) and visual connections with nature (13.75%). These findings confirm that Mahboen Coffee's design strategy successfully creates a natural, comfortable spatial experience that aligns with the principles of biophilic architecture.
