APPLICATION OF THE FREEDOM OF USE CONCEPT IN THE WORKS OF ANNE LACATON AND JEAN-PHILIPPE VASSAL

Abstract

Anne Lacaton and Jean Philippe Vassal are French architects renowned for their "freedom of use" approach in their works. This concept rejects conventional spatial standards and emphasizes spatial generosity, economic efficiency, and sustainability in the design of living spaces. This article aims to examine the application of the "freedom of use" concept in their major projects through a qualitative literature study. The analysis focuses on identifying key principles and their contributions to architectural practice. The findings indicate that this approach holds significant potential in creating flexible, participatory spaces centered on user well-being, while also offering sustainable design alternatives in a global context.
